Description:
This internship provides the experience of what it’s like to teach undergraduate fiction writing. Through student assessment, leading reading discussions, and creating in-class writing activities, the intern will develop as a fiction writer by learning more about the craft of fiction, and, further, develop as a teacher of creative writing who utilizes innovative and engaging approaches to pedagogy.
Responsibilities:
- Attend all English 3030 classes.
- Assess and grade two sections of English 2010, another CW course, and one section of English 3030: Intermediate Fiction Writing.
- Develop a familiarity with the primary texts used in these courses.
- Develop lesson plans and lead all reading discussions in English 3030: Intermediate Fiction Writing.
- Lead two creative writing workshops in English 3030: Intermediate Fiction Writing.
- In English 3030: Intermediate Fiction Writing, provide one or two in-class creative writing activities, with an accompanying PowerPoint and/or handout, on elements of fiction craft of your choice.
- If requested, meet with English 3030 students to discuss short story ideas and/or read and comment on student story drafts.
- In English 3030, share insights or expertise on fiction writing.
Qualifications:
- Must have taken the English 3030: Intermediate Fiction Writing course.
